With all the excitement building up for the Olympics in London this year, I thought I’d write about my second (very short) trip there. The first time I went was in 2007, and I was smitten. (So smitten, I applied and was accepted to grad school there, but put it on hold for financial reasons.)
The second time I went back, it was just sort of a passing-through point between the Royal Ascot and the World Cup in South Africa. I was so happy to be back there though, because London’s got such a great vibe. I love the accents, the class, the history, the charm, etc.
The weather this time around was just perfect though. The last time I’d been there, there was only one day of sunshine–the rest of the days were overcast and rainy (though, truly, that’s London for you). But this time, the temperature was perfect, the sun was shining, and people were out in hordes.
This trip, I stayed at the Royal Garden Hotel, which was beautiful, and the views were magnificent. It was also in a great location–my favorite place–Kensington.
Being that it was such a short trip (a day and a half), I didn’t have time to see a whole lot, but just sort of revisited the hot tourist attractions. I also rode on the London Eye again.
I’m really looking forward to going back for a third time next month. Not only to see the Olympics, but to get to explore the city even more. This time, I’ll be there for a total of 13 days! That should be plenty enough time to see more. Any suggestions for things I must see or do?
