Foodie Friday: Seafood Soup

seafood soup iceland

I’m kind of obsessed with seafood, and if you’ve been reading for a while, you probably already know that. I’m also totally obsessed with Iceland, and it’s a country with no shortage of seafood. Today’s Foodie Friday is seafood soup, which I ate at a charming little restaurant in Ólafsvík, Iceland.

Ólafsvík is an adorable fishing town on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. As soon as I entered the village (population 1,000), I knew I had to stop and take it all in. Gilid Restaurant was the perfect place to do this. They had a small self-serve buffet inside, and you could sit outside on the patio, soaking up the sun, and staring at the gorgeous coastline. The seafood soup was the perfect combination of warm and hearty: exactly what was needed on a chilly summer day. Afterwards, I popped across the street to a bakery for a sweet treat for the road.

If you’re ever in Ólafsvík (and you should definitely go), be sure to stop by Gilid Restaurant for simple, but cheap eats, and a wonderful ambiance and view of the water.
