A couple of years ago I took a day trip to Bosnia & Herzegovina from Dubrovnik to check out the local culture, people, and food. After taking in the Mostar Bridge, a local mosque, and the Turkish House, I headed to the Old Bazaar to do a bit of shopping and some eating. I was pointed in the direction of a restaurant that served typical foods for the region, and decided to give that a shot.
I ordered what was basically a sampler plate of regional foods, including mashed potatoes with a sort of broth over them, peas, some kebab meat, sarma (meat and rice rolled in pickled cabbage leaves), and dolma (rice-stuffed grape leaves). I didn’t care at all for the sarma, and immediately gave it to my then-boyfriend, but everything else was pretty delicious. I love to try foods that are typical to different regions, and was happy to have picked this variety-packed dish.
Sounds DE-LISH! I’m with ya, girl. I love trying authentic food in new locales. I had some crazy ceviche-type seafood in Dubrovnik once. It was our first night there, and I’ll try anything- I mea ANYTHING. There were definitely some things on that plate that I would not touch…these were the items that looked like they had been sitting in formaldehyde glass jars in a mad scientist’s laboratory. PASS… ha! p.s. can’t wait to make your acquaintance in 3 days!!
Haha, yeah, when food doesn’t even look appetizing, it’s hard to even just taste it! And maybe we’ll have to check out some local foods to try in Toronto! I’m also really looking forward to meeting you! :)
My mouth is watering! I love the food from this part of the world.

I know what you mean, Julian! When I was in Croatia, I was spoiled rotten with the great foods there!
I WANT those mashed potatoes! How were they?

They were delicious! The best part of the whole meal, I thought.
