Living in Austin for several years meant that I spent a decent amount of time in Houston, which was just a couple-hour drive. It’s a huge city–largest in Texas and fourth largest in the country (by population)–which means it’s got lots of great places to stay! Boutique hotels are my favorites, so I give you the best of Houston’s boutique hotels!

The Lancaster

The Lancaster is situated in a renovated 1926 building in the Theater District in Houston. It’s listed as a Texas Historic Landmark and a Historic Hotel of America, making it a must-stay hotel. Rooms are simple, but elegantly decorated, and feature down duvets and free Wifi! There’s also a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which features American bistro fare using local ingredients.

Hotel Indigo at the Galleria

Hotel Indigo certainly lives up to its name! Its bold blues and abstract photos make this centrally located hotel a unique place to stay. Located in The Galleria, Houston’s shopping Mecca, Hotel Indigo is within walking distance of tons of Houston sites. The hotel’s 131 rooms also provide free Wifi, top-quality linens, room service, and coffee makers.

Magnolia

If you want to be downtown and in the heart of it all, stay at Magnolia Hotel. Just a few-minute walk from Minute Maid Park (where the Houston Astros play) and the Downtown Aquarium, this hotel is in a great location for getting around. Not only that, but they offer a free downtown shuttle service–you can’t beat that! The hotel boasts a rooftop swimming pool, a gym, and a business center. Check out their breakfast buffet at the Houston Magnolia, enjoy a free evening reception complete with beer, wine, and sodas. Later in the evening, they offer cookies and milk!

Hotel ZaZa

Located in the Medical Center District of Houston, Hotel ZaZa is close to the Museum of Natural Sciences and the Houston Zoo. Rooms are elegant and sophisticated and some offer great views. To escape the stifling Houston heat and humidity, take a dip in the private pool or check out the spa center. The hotel also has a bar and restaurant, making it so that you never have to even leave the property if you don’t want to!

Hotel Derek

Like Hotel Indigo, Hotel Derek is located in Houston’s Galleria as well. That means you have hundreds of shops, restaurants, and things to do within just a few steps of your front door! This incredibly stylized hotel features modernist, loft-style rooms with local Texas-inspired art, cow-print robes, rainfall showerheads, and more. If you’re looking for something to do after your busy day of shopping, take a dip in the pool or relax poolside and watch a movie on their movie wall. Alternatively, head down to the restaurant or bar for some good eats and great drinks.

St. Regis

If luxury is your thing, the 5-star St. Regis near downtown Houston is the place for you. Spend a day in their full-service spa; plan a workout at their state-of-the-art gym; or enjoy an afternoon in the Tea Lounge, complete with high tea and snacks. If you want something a bit more substantial, taste the modern American flavors at The Remington Restaurant or have a more low-key meal and drink at The Remington Bar. It’s doubtful you’ll be hungry later, but if you are, take advantage of their 24-hour room service.

No matter where you want to stay in Houston, you’re sure to find a comfortable and stylish hotel for you to lay your head.
