I didn’t get to spend much time in East Iceland. It was sort of a passing-through point on the trip, and to be honest, I didn’t find that there was a whole lot to stop and see (touristy site-wise).
I’ve heard that Iceland is a land of ever-changing weather and that you never know what you’re going to get. But in my entire two weeks there, driving around the country in the affectionately named Fjord Focus, I only experienced one afternoon of rain. And it wasn’t even the kind of horizontal rain which makes umbrellas worthless that I’d heard about and been prepared for. It was a lovely fine drizzle coming from a grey-clouded sky with only bits of blue peeking through.
If theres one thing Iceland’s got going for it (besides its beautiful scenery), it’s its light. It’s incredible the way it dances on the sides of the mountains and paints things deep browns and bright greens. The last photo of this series is probably my favorite from East Iceland. The rain had almost stopped and the clouds gave way to just a bit of sunlight fighting to get through. The colors were absolutely magnificent.
Iceland is on my wish-list! Thanks for such lovely photos!
I dream also, dream of going to Iceland
