What to Wear for International Travel

There was once a time when men dressed up in suits and women in dresses for air travel. I’d like to think that the days when fashion and travel went hand-in-hand aren’t over, but lately in the airport I see people in sweatpants, tube tops, and socks and sandals. I understand that there’s a desire to be as comfortable as possible when flying, especially on cross-country and international flights: you just paid an arm and a leg to be a sardine for eight hours.

What to Wear: International Travel

I think though, that there is a way to combine style and comfort when traveling. The key is to wear lightweight materials that give a little. Layers are always important too, as the temperature always fluctuates on the plane. I tend to travel with a scarf and a pair of socks handy just in case I get cold. The other thing to bear in mind when dressing for a flight is the ease of removing items. Security check can be awful these days–some airports make you take off belts, shoes, cardigans, scarves, and more–so make sure you wear things that are easy to take off and put back on so that you don’t hold up people behind you, or delay yourself for too long.
