Has there ever been a place that just sort of kept popping up on your radar and that maybe you never really considered until about the 100th time it popped up?
Yeah, well, that’s Prague for me. The first time I ever really heard about Prague was in high school when my best friend studied abroad in Poland and visited Prague a few times. When she mentioned it, it sounded like such a fun place to be. Of course, most of the stories were about getting drunk underage with her other foreign friends. I didn’t know much about Czech Republic other than it was Eastern European and had split off from Slovakia in the early-90s. I suppose whenever I hear “Eastern European” certain images are conjured up in my head. All of them are silly and stereotypical and I’m sure pulled from some ridiculous movie I saw about how behind-the-times Eastern Europeans are.
In any case, it’s a place that’s sort of been off and on my radar for a few years and I’m dying to go. When I look at pictures of it, it just feels like such a fairy tale land. It seems such a romantic place: the gorgeous Charles Bridge, Týn Church towering over the city, the castle. In winter, they also host a Christmas market that I can only imagine is magical.
Update: I went to Prague on my European Road Trip!
We leave for Prague in just over a week — just in time for the start of the Christmas market! I’m so excited for it!
I can’t wait to read all about it! I actually have an entire post dedicated to European Christmas Markets planned. There are far too many to check out.
